Year 6
Welcome to Year 6
Our Year 6 teachers are Miss Smith and Mrs Taylor, who are supported by Mrs Hatfield and Mrs Amies.
Year 6 is your child’s final year at St. John’s and it will fly by really quickly. The children will spend time consolidating and developing many of the key skills they have learned during the lower years through a range of learning opportunities across the curriculum. They will be encouraged to challenge themselves to achieve their potential. Whilst they will be encouraged to develop more fully as independent learners, there will be a range of support and interventions in place to identify and fill any gaps in their learning.
During Year 6, the children will have the opportunity to take part in a 5-day long residential visit to further encourage independence and the visit helps them develop their understanding of what makes good teamwork and why it is important too.
After SATs test are completed in May, the children will have the opportunity to take part in an end-of-year dramatic performance. We have developed strong links with our neighbouring school, Baxter College, and there are opportunities for the children to meet staff and children and find out more about the process of transition to secondary. Our year ends with Oscars night, an annual celebration of the year and the children’s achievements.
We look forward to working closely with parents and carers to ensure the best possible outcome for the children as they come to the end of their journey at St. John’s. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
